Building Schools for the Future (BSF)

The Building Schools for the Future Programme offers an exciting opportunity to transform and modernise the way education is delivered. It is the largest school procurement method for over fifty years. The Environments for Learning Consortium (E4L) is Interserve’s response to the BSF and comprises: Interserve, Barclays Private Equity, Mott MacDonald and Cambridge Education. E4L are committed to educational and ICT-led design, continuous improvement and delivering value for money.

Whilst BSF is a relatively new procurement method, Interserve has significant experience in the innovative provision of schools and leisure centres. This track record is in both new build and refurbishment projects and of working in similar partnerships. An example of a new build can be seen in Pudsey Grangefield School, part of the Leeds BSF programme.

The recent Building Award citation on Leeds BSF includes the following words: “It is hard to imagine a BSF project without collaborative working, but the winner here proves that if done well, it can push the finished project that extra mile...Nobody has any illusions about the complexity of delivering a project of this scale, and the fact that it was done so successfully is a credit to Interserve and a testament to its efforts to ensure collaborative working throughout the process.”

E4L have experience of helping and advising at all stages in the project development process, from developing the strategic case for change to running the Local Education Partnership. The E4L Consortium provides specialist help for developing your new projects and provides an integrated team of supply chain advisors to assist with education and ICT-led design. We have developed leading integrated teams of educationalists, managers, architects, engineers, cost advisors, life cycle advisors, builders and FM to ensure that through the BSF your facilities are transformed to respond to your evolving educational needs and future working methodologies.
